About Me

My grandma, who I was very close to growing up, bought me my first "real" camera when I was in 6th grade. High-tech it was, with rechargeable batteries and a special case for the film rolls. This was very exciting since all I had previously used were Polaroids and disposable cameras. She also bought me a couple Introduction to Photography books and said now that she bought me all these gifts, I better live out my dream of becoming a photographer (or else she'd take them all back). Looking back, I recognize her dramatization, but at the time, I just knew she was serious. She returned to the Lord when I was in 8th grade, and ever since, whether it be out of desire to fulfill that request or because I feel drawn to the lens, I carried a point and shoot camera with me everywhere I went (which now everyone does with these fancy phones!).

Since then, I have taken some basic photography courses and casually practiced photography. Vacations were ideal for photo-ops - I was the sister sitting in the back of a 3-person canoe taking pictures of the scenery instead of helping my mom and brother paddle in rocky waters. I would be the one lagging behind as we walked through foreign towns because I was trying to "capture the moment." For me, any activity or trip revolved around getting great pictures!

Now that I have DSLR camera, I am actively working on developing my technique and style. I finally feel as though I have time to invest myself in the art, and even begin doing it on the side! I love the rush of taking pictures and capturing emotions, and doing so in a thoughful and artistic way.

A little more about me...

I am a Central Valley girl from Fresno, CA. I grew up playing competitive soccer and kept busy in high school with cheer and diving. I moved to the bay area for college, where I obtained my bachelor's and master's in civil engineering. I was lucky enough to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel the US and "work" for a year before returning to grad school. I am now working full time as a civil engineer in Oakland, CA and live in the east bay. In my free time I play soccer in an adult soccer league, continually resist the urge to get a puppy, enjoy wine tasting and traveling, and am always looking for an excuse for a weekend getaway. :)
